March 2003 Meeting Minutes
The March 18, 2003 meeting of the Manitwo Flyers was called to order without any incident. There were 17 members present. The quorum was established.
The treasurer’s report was read and approved as such. We had more income then outcome, always a good thing.
To get a listing of the Charter members you can look at the AMA website.
Kelly’s Hobbies has opened up. Please support your local hobby shop or you will not have one for long. I understand his prices are close to if not better then mail order.
Sweetman’s Hobbies is taking preorders for fuel. The list is somewhere on the site. If someone is interested he needs the orders in by the end of April You must order by the case to get the discount. If yo do not need a case you can share with someone else. There is an additional discount if you pay in advance. This is a good deal because the shipping is included. The discount for case lots is $4 and an extra $2 for payment in advance.
There was more discussion on the events at the Manitowoc and Two Rivers Senior Centers. The Manitowoc dates are 24th 25th of April; Two Rivers date is set for Monday 28th. Kelly Sweetman and Pat Hemken will be doing the Manitowoc show, while Gene Pagel will be helping at the Two Rivers show. Thanks to them and everyone else that will be helping out.
There was a crappy discussion on the porta-potty, the new field and Airport Days. The servicing price for the potty is $30 per time. A new potty would be about $500-$600. Al has arranged to get a excellent helicopter pilot to commit to doing a couple of shows during the day.
The Laribee flying field site would not work out. The old landfill site is 100x300 but no real access road and possible residential on one area.
The Hillcrest Road site is east of Hwy 147 and West of 42. The issue is with the county planners and we should hear back from them real soon.
The club was sent a very nice letter from the Two Rivers School board about our request to use the facilities for events. We would possibly hold the summer meetings there. We would also like to host a learn-to-fly day for the kids in August, a float fly for August 10th and a swap meet Sunday Feb 2, 2004 and indoor electric fly ins.
With the frost coming out of the ground the road to the flying field has been closed until further notice. If you need to fly, either fly right near the shed or carry your things to the field. A wagon or a field box on wheels really helps save the arms from looking like an orangutan. The road to the field is getting a lot of ruts in it. Lew Stevens had put the sign up and will take it down when conditions are ok for driving.
In order to make the Airport Days even more successful we would like everyone that is going to bring planes to fill out a form describing the plane. These will be used for displaying the models to give the public a better idea of what goes into the hobby. This would give us a more professional look. Remember to where your club shirts for club events.
There is a form for all club members to fill out. This form along with pictures of each member will be used to help everyone recognize each other. With 50 some members last year in the club how many of those can you recognize on sight. This should help. Please fill it out or send the information to one of the club officers.
Information and forms about the BRAT FRY are also listed on the web site.
The club is ordering extra insurance for the instructors to help in the training. This way the instructor can teach someone for a month before they have to join the AMA. This should help to hook someone into the hobby. A nice way for them to get their feet wet, try before you buy.
Be sure to take a look at club’s new by laws.
