January 2003 Meeting Minutes

January meeting of the Manitwo Flyers.  At the January meeting there was $189 income with no expenses.  This was the first report by the new Treasurer, Kelly Sweetman.  He did a bang up job.  He transferred the funds to an interest bearing check account.  Currently there is 2194 bucks in the account.

There was a report from the Committee.  There are many items planned for upcoming year.  Full participation by all members will really be appreciated.  We expect as much help as possible.  The last Saturday in April (24th) there will be a brat fry at the Pic and Save in Two Rivers.  We will be starting around 8:30 and continuing on until after supper time.  All proceeds to go into the treasurer’s pocket to help offset the costs the club incures.  There was a sign up sheet started.  Lloyd Federer will be heading up this endeavor and has the sheet.  Any interest parties can see him at the meeting or drop him an email kfederer@excel.net.  We will need coolers for soda, meat, a sign.  We will need some fryers.  There is a minor debate going on about if we should use the gas grills or the traditional Weber.  We will be using precooked brats.  We need cooking utensils, Nescos, sellers, booth babes.  Airplanes for display would be nice as well.

The first weekend in June, the 7th and 8th is the Manitowoc Airport days.  Again this year the club will be participating.  A few new things are planned and a few old things have been scrapped.  We will be having a raffle.  This raffle will either be for an airplane flight or for a complete airplane trainer combo.  All members will be given a number of tickets to sell either before the airplane days or during.  Sales of the tickets will start with the Brat Fry in April.

Greenwoods will be donating the use of a large screen TV for showing of model airplane videos.  Milwaukee PC is donating the use of 2 computers to run flight simulators.

The club is negotiating with the school board of Two Rivers for rights to fly at the new high school.  This would be for fun flies, fly ins, or even a float fly.  All of these activities are planned for this year as well.  We should know shortly whether or not we are going to be allowed use of these facilities.

In February 22, 2004 next year at this time, we will be hosting a Auction/Raffle/Electric Fly In/Swap Meet at the Two Rivers high school gym.  This is a Sunday and is starting to shape up as a great day.  Please mark your calendars now as this is a must attend for as many people as possible.  It will be a big event so a lot of help is needed.

Gene Pagel has set up an electric fly on February 15th at the Hamilton Community House Gym is reserved for Saturday February 15 from 2:30P until 5:30P for flying indoor stuff.  The building is located on West Park, one block west of Washington Street between 17th and 18th streets.  Enter from West Park.  The building and the Gym should be open and you enter the Gym from the lobby. You can pay the attendant or at the office in the senior center at the west end of the building on 17th street. The cost is $9.45 per hour for TR residents, otherwise it's double, so make sure Ryan is there to pay. It is probably a good idea to check in with the attendant when you arrive so he knows what's going on.  The price is per hour so it does not matter how many people attend.  The more attend the cheaper the per person cost.  We have 3 hours reserved.  The cost will then be about 28.35.

We have talked about the AMA insurance and in order to maintain coverage it is vital that the field rules and bylaws are adhered to.  Jack Shoenberger has “volunteered” to be the Field Marshal.  We feel that we will need more station blocks.  It is important that no flying is done behind the cars.  All flying must be done in front the pits and over the flight line.  This will take a little getting used to but it will not be that bad.  Any serious infraction of the rules could result in termination of flying privileges.  The matter will be forwarded to the club’s officers for review.  Flagrant and frequent disregard for the rules could result in dismissal from the club.

The instructors are allowed to teach someone to fly for 30 days without this new person being a member of the AMA.  The instructor has to be using his own plane for this or perhaps a club trainer.  The AMA would then need a list of the qualified instructors.  Currently these are Lloyd Federer, Don Meneau and Vince Hickel.

We are working on getting a catalog of all the club members.  This would be a picture of the member with information about their flying interest and other personal data.

Check in the newsletter for a list of the club rules.  We hope to approve them in the February meeting.

We have assigned a board of directors.  Several members have volunteered to be members.  They will join the current officers as members of the board.
