Manitwo Flyers Club Meeting

M&M Lunch, Two Rivers, WI 11/21/06

 

Meeting called to order by pres. Lloyd Federer.

 

Role was taken by Tom Curelli: 10 members present.  1 Guest present: Dan Hilmer, a pilot for the Kohler Corp.

 

Treasurer’s Report read by Tom Curelli. 

1. Net worth as of November 21,2006 was $8313.65; $1356.05 left in AMA grant money.

2. Motion to approve by Lew Stevens, seconded by Vince Hickel, unanimously passed.

Business

1.      Field Improvements (Jim)

a.       Work is done, except power needs to be brought out to well.

b.      Irrigation system will be hooked up to well in spring.

                                                                           i.      Heads to be installed in spring. 

                                                                         ii.      Some fill is needed to fill in settled trenches.  Will be reseeded after filled in.

c.       4 Seasons recommended adding Gypsum to soil to help break up the clay.

                                                                           i.      Approximately (130) 50lb bags would be needed.

d.      P.O. Box needed for the Electrical bill/s to be sent to.

e.       The field will be slit seeded, then refertilized.

2.      Fund Raising (Don G, Al)

a.       Don Gruett put together a very impressive informational booklet with maps, aerial photos, various pictures of models, instructing, flying, etc.

b.      After Thanksgiving, a plan of attack will be constructed

c.       Fundraiser announcement made via local newspaper/s, including history, vision, current of club.

d.      Don has 26+ companies that will be contacted for their potential support.  Al has a similar number that he will contact!

e.       Harley Davidson has been contacted to see if they will donate a Harley to be raffled off as a fundraiser.

                                                                           i.      Done in conjunction with Stocks Harley Davidson or similar

                                                                         ii.      $20/ticket or 6/$100.

                                                                        iii.      Stocks, gas stations, and other area businesses will help sell raffle tickets.

3.      Field Sign (Tom)

a.       Sign is up! 

b.      Construction consists of aluminum board, vinyl, then clear covering.  Lasts 5-6 years before replacement is needed.

c.       It was agreed upon that the website (www.manitwoflyers.com) should be added to the sign.

4.      Election of Officers 

a.       Nominations for the December, 19,2006 election are as follows:

                                                                           i.      President: Lloyd Federer

                                                                         ii.      Vice President: Chuck Wernecke

                                                                        iii.      Treasurer: Gene Pagel

                                                                       iv.      Secretary: Eric Cayemberg

                                                                         v.      Field Marshall: John Coenen

                                                                       vi.      Safety Officer: Doug Hahn

b.      Motion by Don Gruett to accept nominations as written above, 2nd by Lew, unanimously passed.

5.      Ethnic Fest (Gene)

a.       Gene called to enquire about setting up a booth at Ethnic fest.  They will send him an application; after which we may apply to sell food or similar.

6.      Business Cards (Al)

a.       Al presented an example of business cards that included the Manitwo Flyers logo, name, website, and contact info.

b.      There was significant interest that they might be passed out to interested individuals.

c.       Cost would be only that of the cardstock and ink, very minimal

d.      Al to look further into pricing of printing out several business cards.

7.      Open Floor

a.       Lew donated issues of FlyRC to the Two Rivers Public Library.  Included with the magazine is the Manitwo Flyers Brochure.  The brochure needs to be updated slightly, and more must be printed.

                                                                           i.      Prompt Premium: cost is about $0.65 each or about $100 for 50; full color.

b.      Manitowoc Visitors & Convention Bureau: Add your events and info to the website for free: www.manitowoc.org/vcb/form_events.html.

                                                                           i.      Gene will send some info to the site

c.       Rocket Launches at the Manitwo Field

                                                                           i.      Lots of discussion, concerns about usage, timing, etc.  Tabled for future discussion.

d.      Christmas Holiday Party

                                                                           i.      To be held in January.  Vince will look into date and location.

e.       Keith Nickels has moved to Texas, he sends his regards to the club.

f.        Quickie 500: A few members have picked up the Great Planes Viper.  Wednesday nights will be Quickie 500 practice nights at the Manitwo field.  For more info: contact Eric Cayemberg.

g.       Educational Activities:

                                                                           i.      The principal at McGee School in Two Rivers is interested in a talk and possibly flying demo in March.  Gene will head up efforts.

                                                                         ii.      Mishicot: Gliders: Gene, Lew, or both will potentially work with them.

h.       Porta Potty may be used over winter.
