Minutes of June 17, 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Lloyd Federer at 7:00 PM.  Role was taken with twelve members present.

The treasurer’s report was read by Fred Scholz.  A motion to accept the report as read was made by Lew S. and seconded by Jack S.  Motion carried.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Gene Pagel.  A motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Fred S. and seconded by Chuck W.  Motion carried.

Field Status

As of today’s meeting 56 holes have been dug and one post installed for the new building.  Shortly after the posts are set the concrete will be put in, hopefully by the end of next week.  Any top soil that is removed for the field changes will be put to the south of the new building.  SMI still needs to drill holes for soil samples.  The latest quote from the county shows that the preparation for the black top will be 3” rock, 6” of stone, and then 3” of gravel.  For both runways this amounts to 500 truckloads.  What this all boils down to is that with increases in cost the new quote is for more money than we currently have or has been pledged.  None of this includes any reseeding for areas adjacent to the new runways or for any safety fencing required.  Al Howarth is making inquiries for any financial help we might be able to get.

Folk Fair( flying demo)

Lloyd Federer, Lew Stevens, Jack Schoenberger, Bill Kvindlog, and the writer put on an indoor flying demonstration at the Two Rivers Senior center on Friday June 13, 2008 at 11:00 AM until Noon. All were invited to a free lunch after the demo.  Unfortunately only a few people showed up.  Those that did were very entertained and interested in the planes.  At least all had a good time flying in the gym.

Club Brochure

A copy of the club brochure has been E-mailed to Vince H. for updating.  When that is complete the writer will take a disc to Prompt Printing and have 100 more printed.

Thunder on the Lakeshore

Fred Scholz said that he had asked for about 20 aircraft for display at the air show and we had about 30 from our club and a total of about 50 including planes brought by others. We also had several club members fly with the Northern Aces.  Unfortunately the show was cancelled on Sunday because of the weather.  Al Howarth indicated that the RC portion of next years show can be ours if we are interested.  It was left that if we get a confirmed commitment from Curt that it can be ours then we will talk about it at that time.  Al is to report back.

Cap Project

The head of the Cap agency said the kids are getting excited about flying the planes that they assembled.  We have not been able to get together with the kids because of the weather and other commitments.  It was agreed that Thursday night would be a good time to work with kids.  This is to begin with this Thursday between 5:00 and 6:00 PM.  Al Howarth is to make arrangements with Cap and inform Fred Scholz.  Fred will then advise those who volunteered for training.  Al will bring the Cap planes to the field and put them on the chargers.

Open Floor

Al Howarth said the Fondulac Aermodelers fun fly is scheduled for June 21, 2008 if their field is OK.

Lew Stevens noted that the field sign had been repaired by him and Gene Pagel.  Lew also added that he has been cutting the field every Wednesday.  Lew and Gene put roundup on the road to help stop the grass from getting in to the roadway .  Lew will be having the building service door lock fixed.  It has been giving trouble getting into the building.

Russ Halverson volunteered to fix the picnic tables.

If anyone is interested in the latest bylaws, they are on the web site under members only section.

A motion to adjourn was made by Jim S. seconded by Lew S.  Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 8:20 PM.
