The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Cindy Wirth. A motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Gene Pagel and seconded by Jack Schoenberger. Motion carried.
Fred Scholz presented the financial report and expense summary for 2008.
Cap Project
Kids are still participating with good enthusiasm. A big thank you to everyone who has been helping out. One of the boys will be 19 before the end of the program. It would be possible for him to fly, for 60 days, under and introductory flight program. Will wait until on the field and submit it from there. Lloyd, Fred and Gene will continue to volunteer as flight instructors. Kelly Sweetman has expressed his willingness to instruct also. It was noted he does need to be a club member to participate. The idea of 3 kids flying at one time was also expressed. This was questioned by Lloyd Federer as to the field safety with 3 students flying at one time.
Jet Rally
Al Howarth has a meeting scheduled on January 31 to get an idea of the dollars and percentages we need to get started. The rally is set for July 10, 11 & 12. Some of the things we need to be looking into are the ad for AMA, food, tents, tables, chairs, motels, camping etc.
Field Rules
Jack Schoenberger was volunteered to review item 9 of the field rules, and has submitted the following change: Intentional low passes parallel to active runway shall be made over the non-paved area beyond the active runway. (This is determined to be north of the east/west or west of the north /south runway, whichever is the active runway). Cindy Wirth will make sure the rules are updated and posted on the web site. A motion to accept the change was made by Al Howarth and seconded by Gene Pagel. Motion carried.
Added note: The jet meet club rules will be explained when the pilots arrive, at the time their radios are impounded.
Magazines
Fred Scholz is going through the magazines. It was suggested to get permission to discard any unwanted magazines. This was followed by a unanimous vote.
Brat Fry
The month of August was picked, and Copps was discussed as a good location for this event. Also Lloyd would be needed on sight for those days. The possibility of getting others certified to relieve Lloyd for some of these events was also mentioned. Fred Scholz will have more information, such as open dates for this event at the February meeting.
County share of profits
In regard to monies raised at any club events, as long as we lease a space to our vendors, money will be put into a general kitty. After everything has been paid, the county will then get 10% of the profits for the event. Al Howarth will get a rent receipt to Jeff for 2008.
Grand Opening
We need to let the public know. Gene Pagel suggested that we also make this a flight education day. Al Howarth suggested we have this event after the Manitowoc Air Show, and it would be a good idea to advertise this event, and the jet rally, at the air show. June 20th is the tentative day set aside for this, and is subject to change. Al Howarth will be catered in to keep it simple. Advertising for this event was discussed, maybe getting an article into the Herald Times Reporter. It would be nice to let the community know what we are all about.
Pylon Races
Vince would like the field done by May 16 & 17. Food is usually taken care of for this event. Lloyd Federer will get more information for the next meeting.
Field Problems
Al Howarth reported on January 16, 2009, the Manitwo Flyers received a certified letter from Sun Steel Industries notifying the Club of a construction lien for non-payment. When the club’s treasurer contacted the president of Sun Steel Ind., he was told that since July of 2008 North Point had not paid for any of the steel roofing and supplies that Sun Steel had furnished to North Point. Due to these facts, Sun Steel then filed a construction lien against Manitwo Flyers. When the Club’s treasurer called Sun Steel he was told that they had not received any payment at all from North Point. When the treasurer asked how much the bill was, the president of Sun Steel said the original bill was $7,101.09, and now with interest it is currently $7,771.22.
Income raising events: Ideas
To be postponed until the February meeting.
March Meeting
Fred Scholz will not be present for the March meeting. Chuck Wernecke will be sitting in for Fred to.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Jack Schoenberger and seconded by Gene Pagel. Motion carried.
