 Business

  1. Fund Raising (Al, Don)
    1. Thunder on the Lakeshore

                                                               i.      Thunder in the Valley party: $100 in raffle tickets were sold by Tom Curelli.

ii.      $700 in tickets sold at Thunder on the Lakeshore Airshow

iii.      Donation check received from First National Bank for $10,000

iv.      A reminder to turn in all ticket stubs and money sold for the Harley raffle.  Drawing to be held at Flight Ed Day, so please sell tickets until then.

                                                             v.      West Foundation: we should go to them to determine what plan of attack they’d like us to take for fund-raising/donations.  Should we set a goal, will they match funds that have already been spent, etc.?

  1. Field (Lew)
    1. Insurance on belongings at field: Building & Contents

                                                               i.      Broker Firm: $350/year minimum cost, insure up to $1500 for building and additional $8000 for items within building

ii.      American Family: $250/year minimum cost, again $1500 building, $8000 contents

    1. Sprinkler: when it rains, the sprinkler operates anyway, creating wet spots (puddles) on the field.  It should cost approximately $150 for a sensor that determines when it rains, and consequently the sprinkler does not operate immediately after rainfall.

                                                               i.      Gene Pagel made a motion to purchase and have the sensor installed at a cost of approximately $200.  Motion was seconded by Jack S, and motion carried

    1. Lloyd and Gene donated hoses, Gene donated a ladder.  Thanks for the contributions!
    2. The newly purchased fertilizer spreader works well!
    3. Roadside Grass: Lew checked into grass for the sides of the gravel road.  Orchard grass/perennial rye was recommended 90,000 sq. ft. of grass would cost roughly $150 in seed.  This is needed so that the newly landscaped area doesn’t wash out.

                                                               i.      Jim spoke with Jim Andrews Services of Green Bay who stated cost to be roughly $55/sq. yd for hydroseeding.  He will measure up the area following the meeting to arrive at a quote.  Update: the landscape surrounding the roadway has been hydroseeded and is taking growth.  Thanks Jim!

    1. Gate to field: A gate would be a good means of providing security at the field.  It should keep most unwanted guests out if placed properly where the ditches are deep enough to not allow for driving around the gate.  Al Howarth offered to pay up to $500 for a gate system in the event that it would ensure security of our field.  Jim made a motion that the club accepts Al’s offer and install said gate.  Vince 2nd, motion carried.  Russell Halvorsen offered to help install the gate.  Update: the gate has been installed right off of the road.  Looks great!  Thanks Al and those who helped with installation!
    2. Asphalt runway: Jim checked with Bryan Glasier from the County regarding pricing on an asphalt runway.

                                                               i.      Bryan informally offered the following figures: 700’ x 75’ runway: $35,000.  Including road prep, asphalt installation of runway and taxiways, a rough figure might be $60,000.  Discussion ensued about the N-S runway, and it was informally decided that the N-S runway may remain a grass strip only

    5. Al spoke with Bill Wilfert about the possibility of placing a sign on the corner of Hwy 147 & 42.  Bill stated there would not be a problem as long as we meet county requirements for posting a sign. Al to check with county
    6. Manitowoc Airshow 2008: A good point was brought up.  Do we (Manitwo Flyers) want to participate in next year (and following years) Airshow?  If so, to what extent?

                                                               i.      We had participated, but the Northern Aces have somewhat bullied us out, we have been frustrated with interactions regarding the show, and have never been compensated

ii.      On the other hand, the Northern Aces show is not that extraordinary, it gives us exposure to local interest, and it allows us an opportunity to showcase our work.

iii.      Everybody needs to think about participation in next year’s show.  The first Airshow Committee meeting is in January, we need to have a firm plan for participation or lack thereof well before then.  Discussion will continue.  Jack Schoenberger motioned to make a committee to gather info on who will do what.  Chuck Wernecke 2nd, motion carried.  Fred and Al will head up the committee.

iv.      The Sheboygan Area “SHARKS” club had an all jet flyin in which Al reported that 9 pilots attended, used both asphalt runways, and did a good job with the event.

                                                             v.      Calumet Flyers have been/will be invited to use our field while their field is torn up later this summer and into fall

vi.      A reminder that Quickee 500 is being flown every other Wednesday night at our field.  Next scheduled night at our field is July 25.

vii.      Pilot stations need to be established.  Patio blocks or fencing will likely eventually be installed.  In the meantime, Eric will spray paint temporary stations at the field.

Lew made a motion to adjourn.  Everybody seconded, and the meeting was adjourned.
