Manitwo Flyers, Ltd.
Meeting Minutes of 4/19/05
Meeting was called to order president Al Howarth at 7:30 PM.
Attendance was taken with eight members present.
A comment was made by Tom Curelli that we now have 16 paid members.
The treasurer’s report was read and approved.
Last month’s meeting minutes were read and approved with one correction.
Gene Pagel said that he had contacted the boy scouts and the county 4-H groups. There seems to be some interest in some kind of program that teaches about RC aircraft and also learning to fly. Gene will follow up and arrange a meeting with Kevin Palmer of the 4-H clubs to see what might be arranged.
Al talked about the Fond du Lac club and said he learned at their last meeting that they had acquired eight new members. Al should find out how they went about acquiring their new members.
Whether or not we will be able to use Don Gruett’s hanger for airport days is still unknown. The airport group is also looking into some other means to house our display.
Al asked for those interested in flying at the airport days. Response was:
Charles McMillan(1/4 scale sport)
Vince Hickel ??
Tim Sorenson (Heli)
Kelly’s friend 3D
Gene Pagel (Lawn mower)
Lloyd Federer (1/4 scale sport)
Al and Kelly Sweetman are working on a float for the Memorial Day Parade.
Al contacted Jeff Beyer of the county. We will be leasing 10 acres of our field back to the county for the farmer to lease. It would be the southern section of the property.
We have received a permit for the donor’s sign at the new field at a cost of $25.00. The sign initially will be 4ft high X 16ft wide. Tom Curelli will work out the design and Al said that John Coenen would take care of building it. The construction will be basically of plywood with name and /or logo boards being separate and attached to the basic sign. There was discussion on what level of donation would be required just the name and what would be required for their logo. It was suggested that for a donation of $1000.00 a donor would get just their name, but for $2500.00 they could have their company logo on the sign. More discussion is needed. The signs are to be designed for a life of 3 years. After that we will ask for more donations to keep the information on the sign.
Mishicot Fest will be held July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2005. There are openings for our group Saturday or Sunday between 3 and 4 o’clock. It was agreed that Saturday would give us the best exposure. We still need to check that is not a problem with fireworks people.
Al received notice that our application for 501-C3 has been received and our accountant will be notified of the status.
Fox Hills has agreed to send us $600.00 if we put their name on the donor sign and indicate that Fox Hills is the official hotel of the Manitwo Flyers. The sign will need to display their logo. They will supply any artwork needed. They also have pledged more support if we continue to promote their hotel and Mishicot Fest.
Tom Curelli has received the trainer from Gerald Schlei. It includes a plane, radio, engine, field box, and starter.
A motion was made by Vince Hickel to have the porta-potty brought to the old field May 1, 2005. Gene Pagel seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Lew Stevens will set up a schedule for mowing at the old field. It was agreed that we would not spend any more money for fertilizer for the old field. Keeping it mowed should be sufficient.
A motion was made by Jack Schoenberger to extend the old field lease to October 1, 2005. Vince Hickel seconded the motion. Motion carried. Al will contact John Schuh for him to sign the lease. Gene Pagel will send a copy of the insurance coverage for the old field.
Gene is also to send a copy of the insurance coverage of the new field to the county clerk (Char Peterson).
Pavex has begun finishing the leveling of the new field. After one day the north/south runway and the long main runway look good. After discussion it was agreed that pavex should spend one more day leveling the area between the two runways as much as possible in the time available. Al is to follow up with Pavex and confirm the cost so when they are done there are no surprises.
Gene Pagel is to check with a local farmer to see if they could do the final prep for planting. This would possibly get it done sooner than having Johnson doing it. Gene is also supposed to find a tractor for pulling the seeder and arranging for a way of hauling the seeder from Wander Springs to the new field.
A motion to adjourn was made by Vince Hickel and seconded by Charles McMillan. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 9:40P.
