February Meeting Minutes 2/17/05

Al Howarth called the meeting to order.

Role was taken with 10 members present.

The Treasurer’s report was read and approved.

The minutes of January meeting were read.  A motion to approve the minutes as read was made by Jack Schoenberger and seconded by Lew Stevens.  Motion carried.

Gene Pagel contacted John Schuh to see if the lease for his property could be extended beyond expiration date of July 31, 2005.  He seemed somewhat reluctant to do so, but did say he would extend it to October 1, 2005 for a price of $200.00.  It was agreed that it was not necessary to act immediately, but to not wait too long for fear of him changing his mind.

Al Howarth said there is a meeting for the air show Thursday February 19,2005.  Al said he would tell the Northern Aces at that meeting that our club wants to fly.  Al wants to commit to having three Manitwo Flyers pilots be part of the show.  After much discussion most seemed to go along with Al’s proposal.

Al talked to Don Gruett about using his hanger to display our aircraft at the air show.  He apparently is having some kind of problem with an abrasive material that has been put on the taxiway at the airport and is being blown into his hanger and scratching his epoxied floor.  Al will follow up on this with Don and advise in the near future.

Steven Jacobsen of Fox Hills has pledged $1200.00 for 2004 and $1300.00 for 2005 if we will advertise on our donor board that Fox hills is the exclusive hotel of the Manitwo Flyers.

There also was a problem with the flying site at Fox Hills.  Apparently the site was too close to the fire works set up area.  This will have to be discussed with Fox Hills.  It was suggested that possibly the driving range along Samz Road might work.  This will have to be looked into.

Al contacted Rockwood Lime and the said they would give us a very good price on gravel for use on the road to the field.

Al met for about an hour with the farmer who has been leasing the land at our new sight.  He agreed he would prepare the land for seeding in exchange for taking the hay off the land to the north of the planned runway.  It was pointed out that our plan always was to plant grass on all of the land to the north of the main runway and that land to the south would be something we would lease or trade to the farmer.  This needs to be clarified or corrected with the farmer.

It was brought up that a gate is probably going to be needed at the entrance to our property to keep people of the property in spring until a suitable road is put in.  Jack Schoenberger said he might have some steel fence posts that could be put in temporarily.  He, Lew Stevens, and Gene Pagel will install them if there is not too much frost.

There was discussion regarding a float for this year’s Memorial Day parade.  Kelly Sweetman has a wagon we can use and we will need some war birds and possibly some people in WWII uniforms on the float.  If anyone knows of some with WWII uniforms, please advise Al Howarth.

Membership

We need to get new members.  Suggestions were made to get the boys/cub scouts, grade schools, and any other community groups exposed to RC.

Other suggestions were to do more advertising, possibly have the club buy a trainer so we always have a plane to use for instruction.

Should we try to do more with the AMA introductory program?

Gene Pagel agreed to contact Lincoln High School to see if they are going to do anything this year with the class on building an airplane.

Al suggested a possible class at his building teaching kids and/or parents to build an airplane.

Al would like to build a model of the new field to show what the new field will eventually look like.

A motion as made by Francis Duffy to give a $50.00 gift certificate to Bob Prucha for use of his meeting room.  Seconded by Jack Schoenberger.  Motion passed.  Gene Pagel will get the certificate from Machuts.

Meeting adjourned at 9:45 P
